Henrik O. Madsen
Henrik is a businessperson, engineer, and he was Group President and CEO of DNV between 2006 and 2015. From 2015-2019 he was the Chairman of the Norwegian Research Council.
Henrik is educated with a PhD in civil and structural engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, where he also held a position as professor within structural mechanics. |
He started working for DNV as chief scientist in structural reliability analysis, working to introduce structural reliability methods in the standard setting work of the international oil and gas industry. Acknowledging this work, he was elected into the United States Offshore Energy Center Technology Hall of Fame as an offshore pioneer in 2002. For DNV, Henrik was the regional manager for Denmark and for Japan. He then headed the Strategic Research Unit and the global maritime, energy, and certification business areas before being appointed as the President and CEO in 2006.
Henrik was responsible for the DNV wind turbine certification activity in the 1990’s, and he established the Offshore Wind unit at DNV in 2000. During his period as CEO, DNV acquired several wind energy technology companies and the merger with GL in 2012 led to the formation of a wind energy unit with more than 1.000 professionals.
In 2015, Henrik O. Madsen was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as a board member of the UN Global Compact.
